As we’re coming to the late stages of the economic cycle, one of the indicators that I look at is new home construction.
According to the census bureau, in 2018 there was a total of 876,000 single family homes that started construction. That is the seventh year of increasing home starts since the bottom in 2011, when there were only 431,000 new homes.
The all-time record for home starts in a single year occurred in 2005, with the total of 1,720,00 new built.
